Emerson Description

 COMMUNITY PLANNING

Situated on 570 acres of former farm land, Emerson will contain 1,200 homes including single family, town homes and multi-family units, and 1.8 million square feet of commercial space.  Included in the commercial space is a 68-acre office park and plans for a shopping center that would contain a supermarket and small convenience-oriented stores such as dry cleaners, bank, fast food and more. Careful consideration has been given to preserve the natural beauty of the land.  The community was designed as a truly “green community,” as woods, hedgerows, streams and other natural amenities have been preserved and used to define the neighborhoods.  Approximately 250 acres of the development area has been preserved as permanent open space offering residents access to woods and streams and recreational amenities.

AMENITIES

As a planned community, Emerson was designed to provide a variety of amenities for the residents’ enjoyment and to promote a sense of community.  The Clubhouse at Emerson is the community’s focal point with two swimming pools, tennis courts and volleyball courts. Most neighborhoods in Emerson contain a centrally located tot lot that includes recreational playground equipment and seating for friends and neighbors to gather. Miles of pedestrian pathways meander throughout the community for walking, jogging or biking.

For the convenience of the residents, the community employs a full-time, on-site manager who manages the amenities, enforces covenants and work to maintain the upscale appearance of the community and to protect property values.

Emerson’s location is convenient to retail and local area attractions.  Columbia, with its two million-square-foot Mall in Columbia, Columbia Crossing, Snowden Overlook for shopping and restaurant options, is nearby. The Historic Savage Mill provides shoppers with a collection of specialty shops, galleries and eateries.

NEIGHBORHOODS

A unique design strategy has been employed so that each of Emerson’s neighborhoods has its own sense of identity and personalization. Nestled among the natural open space areas, each neighborhood is conveniently located to the community amenities.

The community was named after American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson.  To carry on the theme, the neighborhood names such as Bowhill and Walden Glen, as well as street names like Midsummer Flame Terrace and Eastern Morning Run, were derived from Emerson’s poetry and essays.
